The Nigeria international has committed his
future to the Hornets to his faith in owner
Gino Pozzo’s plans at Vicarage Road
Watford have announced that Odion Ighalo has
signed a new contract until 2021.
The 27-year-old extended his stay at Vicarage Road
after an impressive debut in the English topflight
last season with 17 goals in 42 games to end
speculations about his departure from the club.
The Hornets had turned down a £38m offer from
Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for the Super Eagles’
squad at the end of June with the owner Giampaolo
Pozzo adamant to let the Nigerian leave.
Captain Troy Deeney had signed a new five-year
contract at the start of July, and the 29-year-old
who scored 13 Premier League goals last season
would be hoping to form a deadly partnership with
Ighalo this season.
Watford begin their English Premier League
campaign under new manager Walter Mazzarri on
Saturday versus Southampton at St. Mary's
Stadium.
